2016.07.11 - 13. This week, ice cover prevented us from using the smaller zodiacs for scientific excursions from the station. It wasn't until our first multi-day cruise that we were able to venture off station to do some field sampling and exploration of the Western Antarctic Peninsula.
Palmer Station is one of three USA operated stations for research in Antarctica, the others being McMurdo station and Scott base at the geographic South Pole.
What makes Palmer Station special is that a majority of the research conducted at this site is marine biology focused. I am currently at Palmer Station with a motley crew of 17 marine biologists as part of the Manahan B-301 group.
